Old people can be a good source of working idea. But being old don't mean they have done what you want to do. Remember that there's much more people who don't build a business then the ones who do. Find someone who was successful and listen to what they have to say.
Respect the old people. Even the ones who haven't built a business still have some good tips for you. :)
It's all up to you to listen and learn what you need to learn. We only remember what we need at that moment. Even if you take notes, you still miss a lot of good stuff. And when you read those notes later, you'll find stuff that you miss.
