If someone comes to you and ask for a product. You don't have that product, but you know where that customer could find it. What will you do? Will you say that you don't have that product and end the talk or will you tell that customer where he could find it? I know some will do the first and some the last.
The first answer is OK. You told the truth. But you could have done a little more to help that customer.
The second answer is better for the customer. You don't make the sale, but you did the right things. When you do the right things, it will come back to you.
In the end, the customer will remember you if you gave the second answer. This means that he will come back. That's what we want, for our customer to come back even if we didn't sell anything the first time.
Doing good will always come back go you.
